I grew up in LA & heard this band regularly, & I spoke to the man himself on occasion as a teenager. How lucky a kid I was to have seen virtuosos like this, of which there very few in the world..
Just my opinion...this is his best short solo, and the best his drums ever sounded recorded. I heard this for the first time as a kid in 1974. It is still my favorite chart of his, even more than West Side....there is also another studio version of this that is in a completely different feel--afro-cuban. It is on the same CD with reddish artwork. A must listen...you will have a nervous breakdown at the sax solo....
