He hit me And it felt like a kiss
He hit me But it didn’t hurt me He couldn’t stand to hear me say
That I’d been with someone new
And when I told him I had been untrue
He hit me And it felt like a kiss
He hit me And I knew he loved me If he didn’t care for me I could have never made him mad
But he hit me And I was glad
Yes, he hit me And it felt like a kiss
He hit me And I knew I loved him
And then he took me in his arms
With all the tenderness there is And when he kissed me He made me his
This song is unbelievably creepy. No wonder domestic violence victims kept going back to their abusers. "He hit me and i knew he loved me." What was Carole King thinking when she wrote this? Today they would be calling out the censor squad and convening Congress to outlaw it.
you know, some songs leave a little to the imagination but not this one. a 7 year old can understand what this song is about. hopefully the Crystals were only trying to bring attention to domestic violence. i HOPE they arent allowing their boyfriends and husbands to beat them because its the only way they can feel love. that would be sad. i dont know how things were back in the 60s for young girls but i hope they didnt take this song seriously. if a man hits you, its not because he loves you. its because he is a psychopath. a narcissist. and he needs help. women who stay with men who hit them also need help....they dont need to be writing influential songs about it where little girls might think its ok and maybe even start wanting their boyfriends to hit them because of a song they heard on the radio
