Bahia... is the Northern Brasilian state with its main city being Salvador.. When Angelique went there to record with musicians she actually thought she had returned home as Bahia is a place where Africa lives in Brasil... so the song speaks of that other home across the ocean so much like the home of her heart in Benin

She heard the inhabitants of Bahia singing in (Yoruba) and she said it is the most amazing thing she ever felt. Yoruba is a language spoken in some West African countries. Angelique was surprised to hear her language been sung in Brazil! The slaves that were transported from Africa kept the language, the song and the religion of the Yoruba even till this day. The language you hear in this song is Yoruba.
