Bud Powell, who is somewhat forgotten on other jazz channels, was one of the first exponents of bebop. One forgets that he regularly played with Charlie Parker and Dizzy early on. Since he occasionally gets a little sloppy in his playing, you have to look beyond that and listen to WHAT he plays, not necessarily HOW he plays. He was, in short, an innovative monster!
