I remember Bing in blackface. Does getting hair straightened count too? This is nuts.

So many memories come back with this song. I just loved to hear her sing that when I was a little girl. Thank you.

And how great to think that Mr. Johnson from Green Pond wrote this tune.

My mother loved her voice, and always had to hear her, when she could. My best friend, Claire, and I had to remember for some reason, and I am very happy to have found it.

Kate Smith recorded those offensive songs in the early 30s, when racism was rampant in the entertainment industry. Who’s next? Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Fred Astaire, Shirley Temple, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland? They’ve all done racist things in their careers. Why are we picking on Kate, a proud democrat who believed in equality for all? What happened to historical context? The Flyers should be ashamed.

Great! We should have these songs today. Perhaps we would be nicer to each other.

I work in a nursing home and a resident sang this chorus on a loop . I am so glad I looked this up so I could hear the whole song, so lovely!

FYI The mountain that Miss Smith sings about is Mount Baker in Washington State.
