I bought his very first LP(then) because I loved how the saxman appeared on the cover. The very first note he blew told me that he was/is the man. On sax, flute (his major in training ) and piccolo he is the man. High notes played melodically and harmonically are his forte. Listen to Reasons or A House is not a Home. One of the greatest soprano saxists. Nelson is a neo-jazz purist who happens to play pop/r&b commercially without sacrificing the jazz language.Stanley Turrentine comes to mind in that regard; their performance philosophy - not their style.
