my english teacher in the ninth grade deadass played this song and made us sit through it and everyone in the class was like this is not good but they’re just retarded haha
What troubles me is that slavery and forced labor still exists in the Middle East, Africa, and parts of Asia and how many people who are angry about the troubled past of the United States do not acknowledge this fact. The United States has come a long way since then, but it seems as if this wound will never heal. Many of our ancestors (black and white) shed blood to end these barbaric practices, but their efforts are are seemingly in vain due to current tensions. Despite this, I still believe in Martin Luther King Jr`s dream. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
As Black people we have been recording our experience in this demonic land through our music. From the blues of jim crow to the lost youth of broken homes represented in current "trap" music. You want to understand the black experience at any given time. Dig in the crates. Most of our work is only respected, praised, and COPIED in retrospect. This isnt entertainment this is our experience. But this sad story is almost up for the TRUE chosen Children of Israel.
What a voice. No other like it! And this song. And if you think about when it was released...you know that it was way ahead of its time. I get chills up my spine when I here her haunting original rendition. Others have covered it but nobody comes close to this recording.
