I know F Henderson a founder off the Big Band , just there are some pices that i never found back in the internet like *Glad wen you are dead , and , Song for Sally Green , whay ever i turn often back to read Fletcher Henderson, songs all off them are a Time Pice off Historic record , i dont now much better music , also its amuse me to read her.
This band is tight. Great arrangement.Playing together many times a day, week in week out.Difficult to assemble a similar band today, they would not be subject to the same rigours.
In response to Zach... Henderson was the acknowledged master, even at the time, but there were many great black orchestras playing swing before the swing era proper started in 1936; check out Claude Hopkins,Teddy Hill,Benny Carter,Jimmie Lunceford,Chick Webb to name but a few.
There are two takes to this; this is the preferable one and while this record is pretty well known for the Coleman Hawkins solo, and deservedly so, I also like the Buster Bailey clarinet spot.
