Ray Charles was special in his own way; however George Shearing had such a special sound when he played that you could almost close your eyes and automatically you knew who was playing. It is quite something when the sound of your instrument is so remarkably different from others, that you are immediately recognized; Glenn Miller found the sound when he placed the clarinet in the lead; this made him immortal.

Shearing was one of the greats and unlike some, he had a long life. This version of Mambo Inn made me learn it and I now do my own humble version on the piano. Shearing was always brilliant at Latin beats.
