The first time i heard this. So beautuful.Johnny Mathis used to captivate my heart. Once he chose me out of the audience and sang to me personally. I was very moved as he sang A Certain Smile song to me. God bless his soul.

“Good Night, Dear Lord” the title song became expecially popular with radio and television stations as a sign off song at the end of a day of broadcasting. Yes, there was a time when only a few major radio stations in the larger cities were on 24 hours and a miniscuel number of television stations went past midnight.

As a dj in those days, circa 1959, our station was one of the many who chose to end the day with this most beautifully written song, sung with such maturity by a 23 year old with a most remarkable voice, range and interpretation. You knew he could sing but who could guess that at nearly 77 he, or we, would be yet be here.
