East of the Sun and West of the Moon
We’ll build a dream house so lovely
Near to the sun in a day, near to the moon at night
We’ll live in a lovely way dear
Living our love in memory
Just you and I, forever and a day
Love will not die, we’ll keep it that way
Up among the stars we’ll find
A harmony of life, too lovely tune
East of the Sun and West of the Moon, dear
East of the Sun and West of the Moon
Just you and I, forever and a day
Love will not die, we will keep it that way
Way, up among the stars we’ll find
East of the Sun and West of the Moon, dear
East of the Sun and West of the Moon
Up among the stars we’ll find
A harmony of life, too lovely tune
East of the Sun and West of the Moon, dear
East of the Sun and West of the Moon
Well
Up among the stars we’ll find
A harmony of life, too lovely tune
East of the Sun and West of the Moon, dear
East of the Sun and West of the Moon
Prior to the musicians union strike of 1943-1945 (in a dispute with the record companies over royalties from the record sales) it was the bands and orchestras who were the primary names on the record labels, with the vocalists sometimes also there as a secondary listing. During the strike, many vocalists hired non-union musicians to play in the background as they recorded hit songs under their own names. The records sold well, and thus the transition from the Big Band Era to the Solo Vocalist Era occurred. When the strike was settled, the big bands suddenly realized it was the vocalists, not the bands, who were popular with the public and that they (the bands) were no longer the main attraction. This song was recorded before the strike, but later became more associated with Frank than with Tommy and his orchestra.
