Long long ago in a house up the road
Lived a maiden so beautiful
Day after day she looked the same old way
As the sun shone off her hair of gold
Someday I would go there and ask for her hand
Just as soon as I become a man
In the afternoon she’d sit in the shade
And wave as I watched from down the road
Time after time I wished my head to lay
In her arms and at last she would know
Then one day a stranger came to call
And took her far away from down the road
I watched 'til the dusk from the fields down below
But in vain for the night began to fall
Then came the message that summoned me to town
And my knees gave way to the ground
Spoken: They say that this message came with her dying breath
The very last words she ever spoke:
Give my love to the boy down the road
And tell him not to cry, for I know
This song makes me cry with joy. I was 7 when I heard this. My mom bought the album, and I get very emotional listening to this. Such beautiful arrangement...
I ALWAYS LOVED this song. Their harmonies are exquisite, to be sure, not to mention their string work, chord changes, etc... What ever happened to them? They don’t seem to have stayed as long as their skills/talents would’ve carried them. Probably got sick of the service to self Recording Studios’ BS, just like many other artists.Well, they Blessed us with such Wonderful tunes that we will Love & enjoy for all of our years, yes? ~*~
This brings back such veryhappy carefree memories of a MUCH easier time. I wish my kids could enjoy some of what I did. They certainly enjoy my music more than most of the modern crap. They think Im a "hippie!"
in this day of unaware individuals,no one has time. to take in the beauty of music like this.you have to have sensitivity and actually be involved with life that surrounds you! what a loss to humanity! for this music is priceless!
